The city of Sète is nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the Étang de Thau (Thau pond) in the Hérault department. Nicknamed the Venice of Languedoc, the city is crisscrossed by canals lined with colorful facades, numerous bridges, and an old port. A sought-after destination for seafood enthusiasts, the port of Sète is the leading fishing port in the Mediterranean. Sète welcomes the most visitors in August, during the feast of Saint-Louis. During the festival, the renowned Sétoise jousting sees two opponents perched aboard two boats try to knock each other into the water using spears.
