A church with an unstable history

Built in the 12th century, the first Romanesque church of Notre-Dame de Clémence Monastery in the Maures Massif was consecrated on October 3, 1174. It was later destroyed by fire, rebuilt, then looted in 1416 by the lords of Bormes. The church partially collapsed in the 17th century, and the north wall, part of the bell tower, and the beginning of the semi-dome apse were all that remained of the original church.
