In 1960, with the construction of the Serre-Ponçon dam and the impoundment of the artificial lake, the flooding of the Saint-Michel chapel was programmed. However, the building remained above the surface of the water, perched on a peak that became an islet. The cemetery surrounding the chapel was swallowed up, unlike the wrought-iron cross rising on its stone plinth.
