The modest private chapel of the Château Léoube wine estate in Bormes-les-Mimosas is dedicated to Saint Georges like no less than eighty-one French towns. The patron saint of England and Ethiopia, Saint Georges is also featured on the Russian coat of arms. His legend originated in the 4th century in Palestine when an officer from Cappadocia refused to offer sacrifices to the gods worshiped by Roman Emperor Diocletian. Executed for disobedience, he was resurrected each time and multiplied miracles. In the 11th century, the legend of Saint George's victorious struggle against a malevolent dragon symbolizing the demon further boosted the popularity of his worship.
