With 27 military cemeteries scattered throughout Normandy, the American cemetery of Colleville-sur-Mer is undoubtedly the most impressive. It brings together the graves of 9,387 soldiers who died in combat. In total, more than 100,000 men are buried in Normandy. The mission of the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) is to preserve the memory of the sacrifices and exploits of the United States Military where they served in building and maintaining American war cemeteries and memorials abroad.
