Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Nicolas Collegiate Church of Briançon was built between 1703 and 1718 to the north of the city fortified by Vauban. Placed inside the ramparts, it replaced the medieval church destroyed during their construction while affirming, by its dimensions, the Catholic policy of King Louis XIV. The sundial made by the painter Chalvet in 1719 that adorns its main facade is one of the oldest in the Hautes-Alpes department.
