A castle enlarged over the centuries
0
0
Since its construction during the 12th century, the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle has been an object of covetousness. Its position on a rocky outcrop, over 2480 ft (750 m) above sea level, ensured its dominance over the plain of Alsace, extending between the Vosges and the Black Forest. The first version of the castle consisted of only a high keep and two towers. It was embellished with ramparts in 1147 and then enlarged over the centuries.
