The common frog or green frog (Pelophylax kl. Esculentus) is often perched on the floating leaves of water lilies to sunbathe and watch for its prey. Always on the lookout, it dives at the slightest danger. Adult, the common frog is carnivorous and feeds on insects, crustaceans, larvae, tadpoles, and small vertebrates. During its periods of activity, from spring to summer, its very loud song can frequently be heard in the evening and at night.
