Car traffic being prohibited on the island of Porquerolles, listed as a national park in the Var department, travel there is mostly by bike. 4.35 miles (7 km) long and 1.8 miles (3 km) wide, the island is home to no less than 33.5 miles (54 km) of trails and paths that allow visitors to discover its former military forts, its lighthouse, its windmill, its vineyards, and its many coves and beaches. Several bike rental companies have set up in the village of Porquerolles at the port exit. They offer the possibility to rent classic or electric mountain bikes for the day or half-day.
