A car and a cycling speed record

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (W198) Butterfly was drawn and conceived by German designer Friedrich Geiger. The racing car broke numerous records and won several rallies and championships from 1952 to 1960. Among its achievements is an unusual cycling speed record on flat ground. In 1962, a cyclist named Joseph Meiffret ran at an impressive speed of 127.24 mph (204.78 km/h). He was following a 300 SL piloted by Adolf Zimmer. A copy of the vehicle is visible at the Cité de l'Automobile in Mulhouse.
