A cape with two uneven branches

Located in the Alpes-Maritimes department, Cap Ferrat draws a Y with two branches of unequal size. The largest, to the west, comprises almost the entire 613 acres (248 ha) area of the peninsula, while the other, on the east coast, forms a much narrower strip of land that extends to the Pointe Saint-Hospice. The former fishing village of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is implanted around the old port, now known as Quai Lindbergh, built by convicts from the Villefranche penal colony between 1840 and 1876. Having become a major holiday resort at the start of the 20th century, the village of 1,533 inhabitants acquired a new marina inaugurated in the 1970s. It can accommodate 560 boats, including 400 in private spots.
