A calm river bordered by the Othe Forest

Many amateur painters choose the area between the Saint-Nicolas bridge in Joigny and the Épizy bridge in Saint-Aubin-sur-Yonne. The calm and tranquil river is bordered by the Othe forest (69,190 acres / 28,000 ha) which occupies two-thirds of the town of Joigny. The area is home to wild birds such as ducks, cormorants, or even swans. An old towpath runs along the derivation of the Yonne between the Épizy campsite and the Saint-Aubin lock. It is maintained by the Voies Navigables de France (Waterways of France) and passes under a small stone bridge.
