A cable-stayed bridge exceeded in 2003

At the time of its opening in 1995, the Pont de Normandie was the world's longest cable-stayed bridge with 1.32 miles (2.125 km). It was exceeded in 2003 by the Rion-Antirion Bridge in Greece (1.40 miles / 2.25 km) and then by the Viaduc de Millau in 2004 (1.52 miles / 2.44 km). The last to win the palm was the Russky Bridge (Russia) in 2012, with its 1.92 miles (3.1 km). The Pont de Normandie is nonetheless a technological feat that has contributed to the opening up of Normandy and Brittany.
