A bridge with five granite arches
The Vey bridge is made up of five granite arches. Its first stone was laid on August 30, 1817, by the Count of Montlivault, State Councilor and Prefect of Calvados, after a long work of construction of its foundations consisting of six hundred and fifty stilts fortified by rubble masonry. Each of its arches, all completed in 1822, has an opening of 19.6 ft (6 m). No less than seven hundred workers worked on the construction of this bridge, which was taken by the royal road linking Paris to Cherbourg.
