A bridge popularized by numerous songs

Many popular wedding songs, called pillow songs, evoked the Saint-Bénézet bridge of Avignon in the 15th century. In the 16th century, they even inspired Pierre Certon, a music composer for the king's chapel, a mass entitled Sus le Pont d'Avignon followed, in 1853, by a rhyme dedicated to the famous bridge in L'Auberge Pleine, an operetta by Adolphe Adam. It is finally another operetta of 1876, Sur le Pont d'Avignon, which made the reputation of the eponymous rhyme still sung today.
