A breeding developed in France from the 19th century

Born in Great Britain in the middle of the 17th century, the Thoroughbred breed was not introduced to France until a century later, in 1765. Louis-Léon-Félicité de Brancas (1733-1824), known as the Earl of Lauraguais and famous for his enthusiasm for the customs of England, challenged anyone to beat English horses and organized the first horse races in France. Yet, French Thoroughbred breeding only fully developed at the beginning of the 19th century, around 1817. As for the French studbook, it was only created in 1834.
