The breeding of Camargue horses is closely linked to that of bulls insofar as the horse is the indispensable auxiliary of the gardian (herdsman) for the surveillance of the manades (herds) and the sorting of livestock. The Camargue horse breed was recognized by ministerial decree on March 17, 1978. Since then, the rigorous selection of stallions and regular monitoring of the Equidae has made it possible to optimize the quality of the animals and adapt them perfectly to their environment.
