A boom in lavender growing
0
0
In 1981, fine lavender growers got together and created a Lavande de Haute Provence AOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) to stand out and have the properties of their products recognized. This label has made it possible to relaunch the cultivation of fine lavender picked with a sickle on areas of less than one hectare. Since the 2000s, lavender, traditionally very popular in pharmacies, has found new outlets with individuals thanks to the development of natural medicines and the use of essential oils. At the same time, the cultivation of lavender has developed for heritage purposes, and a Heritage Interpretation and Animation Center (CIAP) has been dedicated to it in Barrême in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department.
