A blanket of altitude scree
0
0
The surface formations of the summit of Mont Ventoux give it its characteristic and unusual appearance with its whiteness resembling eternal snow. They uniformly cover the high slopes of the mountain with a more or less thick blanket of altitude scree formed by the repeated action of freezing and thawing. These scree consist of an accumulation of angular fragments between which fine earth has accumulated. Piles of angular blocks of gravity scree generally stabilized and colonized by vegetation are visible lower down, except on the northern side of the mountain, where the slope is steeper.
