A Biosphere Reserve with winter climate

The Queyras Regional Nature Park has been recognized as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Its high altitude maintains winter conditions above 7,874 ft (2,400 m) for more than nine months a year and reduces the periods favorable to plants' development and reproduction. Mostly grassy, the slopes, therefore, benefit the many ungulates (chamois, ibexes, mouflons, etc.) and the high density of marmots living in the park.
