The current bell tower of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Church of Èze is posterior to the monument built between 1764 and 1778 on the site of a first religious building. It was completed in 1844 to replace an initial bell tower deemed too dilapidated and not high enough. The new bell tower took the form of a square tower crowned with a cupola surmounted by an imposing wrought-iron cross. The latter drew lightning on several occasions until the city council decided to remove the dome and the cross and replace them with a flat roof surrounded by a railing.
