A beach with an international reputation

The locality of Pampelonne gave its name to the largest and most famous beach on the Saint-Tropez peninsula. 2.7 miles (4.5 km) long, it occupies an area of 67 acres (27 ha) of fine sand. It extends in the cove of Pampelonne bounded south by Cap Camarat and Pointe de la Bonne Terrasse and north by Cap Pinet and is bordered to the west by vineyards, pine forests, campsites, and luxury properties. Discovered in 1947 by the ethnologist Bernard de Colmont, it became famous throughout the world from the 1950s with the mediatic explosion of Saint-Tropez. Roger Vadim's film Et Dieu… créa la femme (1956) starring Brigitte Bardot and Jean-Louis Trintignant was partially shot on the beach in Bernard de Colmont's cabin.
