A bay named after several British invasions

Located in the municipality of Sainte-Anne, between Anse Michel to the north and the Savane des Pétrifications (Savannah of Petrifications) to the south, Baie des Anglais surrounds one of the most renowned mangroves in Martinique. Rich with remarkable biodiversity, the bay is connected to the emblematic beaches of Anse Caritan or Anse Trabaud by the Trace des Caps path that runs along the southeastern coast of the island. One of its sections, which can be walked in three hours between mangroves and seaside grape-tres, separates Baie des Anglais from Cap Chevalier. The name of the bay recalls the various invasions of Martinique by the British and, more locally, that of 1808, during which the Commander of Sainte-Anne - in honor of whom the town was named - defended the island.
