After the first meeting between the architect Frank Gehry and the CEO of the LVMH group Bernard Arnault, the Louis Vuitton Foundation project really got underway in 2006. The project was supported by Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, the Minister of Culture and Communication, and Bertrand Delanoë, the Mayor of Paris. The agreement signed by the City of Paris grants a one-hectare plot of land for 55 years and stipulates that the Foundation will revert to the City after this period. Frank Gehry unveiled his project: an assembly of glass sails fixed to a central building – the “iceberg” – covered with 19,000 panels of ultra-high performance fibre-reinforced white concrete (Ductal).
