A 360° belvedere
0
0
The municipality of Verzenay holds an unexpected land lighthouse, standing in the middle of the vines. Joseph Goulet had it built in 1909 to promote his champagne wines. Until World War I, the lighthouse was a place of celebrations with its cafe, restaurant, and theater. Destroyed after the Second World War, it was restored by the city from 1994 to 1999. After climbing the 101 steps and reaching the belvedere that stands 82 ft high (25 m), a 360° panorama opens on the vineyard. Next to the lighthouse, an eco-museum explains the history of the local viticulture.
