Between Cabourg and Villers-sur-Mer, Houlgate is an open-air museum of seaside architecture from the beginning of the 20th century. Nearly 300 villas, preserved over time, and two former Grand Hotels, like the Casino, bring the Belle Epoque of sea baths back to life. The brothers Auguste and Louis Lumière, inventors of cinema, owned the villa Les Lucioles. Louis Breguet lived at the villa le Clos de Royan and the chocolatier Gaston Menier at Le Bon Gîte. All styles (classical, Gothic, Norman) can be found in Houlgate, as in the Villa Les Clochettes, where the architect Édouard Singery had Greek deities added.
