Briançon is considered one of the sunniest towns in France with 300 days of sunshine per year and at least two hours per day. The reason is the north-south orientation of the Durance valley, exceptional in the French Alps. It allows the warm Mediterranean air to go up to Briançon while the surrounding mountain ranges block clouds coming from the west or from the Pô valley.
