The last royal crown

Made for the coronation ceremonies of Louis XV by Augustin Duflot, according to the drawings of the Crown jeweller Claude Rondé, the crown of Louis XV is displayed in the Louvre’s Gallery of Apollo. It was originally set with 64 coloured stones, 282 diamonds and 237 pearls. In 1729, at the request of Louis XV, the crown was stripped of its jewels replaced with glass copies. During the French Revolution, all royal crowns were lost, stolen or destroyed, with the exception of the personal crown of Louis XV.
