Exactly 37 bridges cross the Seine in Paris. Four connect the Île Saint-Louis and eight the Île de la Cité. The Invalides bridge is the lowest, while the Alexandre III bridge is the largest and most ornamented. The oldest bridge in Paris, the Pont-Neuf, dates from 1577. It bears such a name because it was the only one not comprising constructions. It is also the longest with 761 ft (232 m) and the first stone bridge to cross the Seine entirely. Out of Paris' 37 bridges, nine are listed as Historical Monuments.
