Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges has known 2000 years of a tumultuous past which was written by the Convenes, the Romans, then by the Visigoths and the Franks. What remains today of this remarkable historical heritage, are unique archaeological and architectural remains. The ruins of the forum, the ancient theater and the early Christian church stretch out at the foot of the village's imposing cathedral and its castle-like appearance. The two linked municipalities of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges and Valcabrère are now emblematic tourist sites and are distinguished as Great Sites of the Occitanie region and among the Most Beautiful Villages in France.
