Wine in Burgundy represents more than 2,000 years of history, from the Gauls and the Romans to the Cistercian monks who codified and delimited plots. The Dukes of Burgundy later established the wines of Burgundy on the table of Kings, hence marking the beginning of an era of gustatory and economic prosperity for the region, whose influence expanded to all of Europe. In 2021, Burgundy was home to 3,577 estates, 266 wine houses, and 16 cooperative cellars. Most of the region's Grands Crus continue to harvest manually and export their renowned wines throughout the world.
