Located at the heart of Norman Vexin, the old medieval fortress of Château-Gaillard can still be seen today in the town of Les Andelys. This pride of King Richard the Lionheart has been listed as a Historic Monument since the second half of the 19th century. This reputedly impregnable stone monument still has a keep, an upper and lower courtyard, and a 120-meter-deep well. The capture of Château-Gaillard is the coup de grace that brought the Duchy of Normandy into the hands of France.
