Born some 1,300 years ago, Mont-Saint-Michel has been known as the Wonder of the West since the Middle Ages. Only about forty people, including ten brothers and sisters of the Monastic Brotherhood of Jerusalem, live permanently on this rock entirely dedicated to the glory of Archangel Saint Michael. Since development work linked to the destruction of the concrete dyke and the construction of an airbridge, Mont-Saint-Michel is once again surrounded by water at high tide.
