Dutch microbiologist and forest engineer, Willie Smits has lived in Indonesia (Southeast Asia) for several decades. He created the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation for the survival of the Bornean orangutan. In this sense, he is working on a large-scale project: the reforestation of more than 500,000 hectares of degraded forest to restore the species' natural habitat.
