Why nocturnal insects are attracted to lights?
2
0
At night, they can revolve around lit bulbs for a very long time. Why ? Usually, insects use natural light, that of the stars, to orient themselves. But everything changed with the arrival of artificial lights. Gérard Duvallet, French researcher in entomology, explains that insects confuse the artificial light of street lamps with the light of the stars. Seeking their way, insects are attracted to these artificial light sources but they ultimately tend to disorient tPhoto credit: Duncan Sanchez
