Why does the deer lose its antlers?
2
0
The growth and loss of antlers is linked to the deer sex cycle. In the fall, it is the mating season. The stag slams, tries to seduce a female and proudly wears its antlers. Antlers are charming assets, and the larger they are, the more the deer carrying them dominates the other deer. When winter comes, the antlers come off their base, naturally. In the spring, they grow back, and in the summer, stop growing. Photo credit: Christopher Rusev
