Why do leaves become yellow in fall?

Usually the leaves are green in color thanks to the chlorophyll. Only, when autumn comes, they turn yellow. This natural phenomenon is explained by the arrival of cold. To prepare for the drop in temperatures, trees reduce their surface area exposed to the cold and block the arrival of sap to the leaves.
