It is considered to be the last intact marine ecosystem on the planet. The Ross Sea in Antarctica is the largest marine reserve in the world. This reserve was created in 2016 and covers 1.55 million square kilometers, which is equivalent to the area of Mexico. The marine area is home to more than 16,000 animal species. A third of the world's Adélie penguins live there alongside a quarter of emperor penguins and more than half of the South Pacific's Weddell seals.
