What is a carnivorous plant?

0
A carnivorous plant is a plant capable of attracting, capturing, and digesting animal prey. Hairy leaves that wrap around prey, glue traps, jaw traps ... carnivorous plants have different capture techniques. The prey can fall by accident, or it is marked by the volatile compounds emitted by the plant. There are over 600 species of carnivorous plants on Earth. Eaters of insects, arachnids, and even small rodents, these plants evolve at the seaside, at the top of mountains but also in meadows and marshes. In 1868, Charles Darwin scientifically demonstrated the existence of carnivorous plants. Photo credit: Eric Borda
