The harlequin frog Atelopus mindoensis was considered extinct for thirty years. In August 2019, a team of researchers from the University of New Brunswick went to Ecuador and found the species. We thought it was extinct because of the chytrid fungus which has decimated many species of amphibians in recent years. Fortunately, this harlequin frog species has developed resistance to the bacteria. A ray of hope for amphibians! Photo credit: Alejandro Arteaga
