The starfish that endangers coral reefs
1
0
The Acanthaster planci is the only poisonous starfish species in the world. It is corallivorous, that is to say, it feeds on corals. Very present in the Pacific Ocean, these starfish ravage coral reefs. For example, in French Polynesia, on the island of Moorea, from 2004 to 2009, the rate of coral recovery fell from 50% to 5% because of the devastation caused by these starfish. Fortunately, solutions exist. One of them is to inject vinegar into each starfish to stop their spread.
