It was the biggest landfill in the world. Fresh Kills (New York, USA) closed its doors in 2001 after 60 years of activity. Since its closure, the landfill has been transformed into a natural park of over 800 hectares. Foxes, deer and marmots have made their home there. Photo credit: James Dunham
