An underwater volcano is forming in Mayotte

Since 2018, an underwater volcano has formed in Mayotte. Located west of Madagascar, in the Indian Ocean, the island of Mayotte is at the crossroads of several tectonic plates. Three years ago, several earthquakes contributed to a submarine volcano more than 3,300 meters deep. This volcano is as high as three Eiffel Towers and does not present any risk for the island population for the moment. Photo credit: Ben Jung
