A starry sky sanctuary

It is the first European site to benefit from this historic label. The island of Bardsey, in Wales (United Kingdom), has just received certification as an “International Dark Sky Sanctuary”. This certification is issued by the International Dark Sky Association, an American association of astronomers. On this 1-kilometer wide British island, a mountain prevents any light intrusion and makes this place one of the darkest sites in the United Kingdom. The conditions are met to create an almost total absence of light pollution, a perfect place for a night under the stars. Bardsey Island joins the list of 16 other sites in the world certified by this label.
