The fish with icy blood
2
0
This fish can survive in waters below their freezing point. Chionodraco hamatus, ice fish, can be found in the icy waters of Antarctica and southern South America. This species relies on the secretion of antifreeze gel, which prevents ice crystals from forming in their blood. Another remarkable adaptation. This fish is the only white-blooded vertebrate since it lacks hemoglobin, the red-colored protein responsible for oxygen transport.
