Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is directly associated with India, the world's leading producer. It grows best in well-drained, fertile, or clay soils, in a warm, humid climate. Whether boiled or dried to powder, turmeric rhizomes are used as a spice, but also in ayurvedic medicine (traditional Indian medicine), notably for their digestive and anti-inflammatory properties.
