Three years without water

The kangaroo rat is a marsupial endemic to the arid western and southwestern United States. It can live three years without water. A small nocturnal rodent, it spends its time nibbling on seeds and plants which give it its daily water supply. The kangaroo rat is not the only animal that can stay hydrated other than by drinking, but it is one of the few that can go so long without drinking. It hydrates itself by oxidizing the hydrogen in its food.
