The Chinese pygmy dormouse is almost blind. He can only distinguish day from night. To find his way around and survive, this rodent and arboreal mammal uses echolocation. Echolocation is the ability to locate prey or obstacles, by emitting sounds or ultrasounds that produce an echo. Thus, the Chinese pygmy dormouse cries and analyzes the echoes thanks to its large ears. This rare practice is also used by other mammals such as bats and whales.
