It is well named. The mayfly is a flying insect that only lives for a few hours. On average, it is in the larval stage between three to six months. This phase can last up to three years. Then, the ephemeral is born, flies and reproduces itself before dying. It is one of the oldest flying winged insects: it is over 300 million years old.
