The world's largest spider

The bird-eating tarantula is the largest spider in the world. It measures 30 centimeters in wingspan and lives in South America, in the Amazon region. The spider, scientifically named Theraphosa Blondi, is not deadly because its venom is not active in humans. Its nickname comes from an 18th century engraving on which another species of tarantula, belonging to the same family as Theraphosa Blondi, devours a hummingbird. The bird-eating tarantula only occasionally feeds on birds, but is large enough to do so. Its diet consists mainly of insects or small rodents such as mice.
